Postdoc positons at national university of Singapore (related to wave-structure interaction), Singapore
Two postdoctoral fellow positions are now open in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of National University of Singapore (NUS). The candidates will be working on a research project towards understanding the wave overtopping hazard for pedestrians on seawall crest. Existing tolerable overtopping conditions regarding pedestrian’s safety are mostly empirically proposed, and may not be applicable for Singapore, where wave conditions are relatively low. In this project, we seek to develop a predictive tool that can model the hydrodynamic process from wave overtopping to flow-human interaction. Using this tool, risk assessment and risk mitigation strategies will be investigated within the Singapore’s context. The research work involves numerical modelling (based on certain existing numerical models, e.g. COBRAS or OpenFOAM) and laboratory experiments (wave flume tests). The candidates will be co-supervised by Dr. Jing Yuan and Prof. Philip Liu. One candidate will mainly work on setting up numerical models, and the other will mainly focus on laboratory experiments and field survey.
 
Requirements:
(1)   PhD degree in coastal engineering, fluid mechanics or closely related fields
(2a) Experimental position: previous experience in studying wave-structure interaction. Familiar with wave flume tests, LabView and some instruments (ADV, pressure transducer, load cell).
(2b) Numerical position: experience in modelling wave shoaling/breaking and/or wave-structure interaction. Experience with OpenFOAM is also desirable. Able to work with HPC.
(3)   Good writing and communication skills.
 
Both positions are two-year initially. The salary and benefits are commensurate with qualifications and experience, and are internationally competitive.
