IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

PhD Position in the field of Assimilation of Soil Moisture and Snow Water into the Mesoscale Hydrologic Model, Leipzig, Germany, Germany
The successful candidate has a MSc in Earth Sciences or Physics. He/she has strong computational (e.g. Fortran, Matlab, R, or C++) and statistical skills and has proven experience in either hydrological modelling and/or remote sensing. Knowledge of data assimilation techniques is a plus.
The responsi-bilities of the post will involve
1) identify spatio-temporal scales at which soil moisture and snow water simulations exhibit the largest bias against the observations,
2) investigate assimilation techniques based on the multiscale parameter regionalization procedure that ensures transferability of global pa-rameters across scales and locations.
