IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Computational Scientist in Computational Fluid Dynamics and High Performance Computing, Daresbury Laboratory, Warrington, Cheshire, UK

About the role: The Computational Engineering Group at Daresbury Laboratory has an exciting opportunity available for a talented post-doctoral researcher to work in the field of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and high performance computing (HPC). The candidate will work for CCP12, a project funded through EPSRC to support computational engineering research on major HPC facilities, both national and international. Ideally the person would also have experience in applying their expertise to problems involving multiblock techniques. The successful candidate will join an active and dynamic research group working on the development of parallel algorithms for CFD and develop and implement them on massively parallel computers. The work will initially take place within a 3-year fixed-term project to develop robust and efficient parallel software in the broad field of fluid dynamics including turbulence, rarefied gas dynamics, multi-scale flows, and micro/nano-fluidics.

About you: Applicants must hold, or be about to finish, a Doctorate degree (or equivalent). Candidates with a good knowledge of fluid dynamics, partial differential equations, or parallel methods are welcome to apply and the post may be particularly suitable to researchers with appropriate experience in cognate fields such as Physics, Numerical Analysis, Applied Mathematics or Mechanical Engineering. The ability to work on their own initiative and within a team on a range of projects will be expected.
