IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Numerical Wave Modeller, Antwerp, Belgium
Flanders Hydraulics Research located in Antwerp, Belgium is a center of expertise which carries out scientific research on the effects of flow (river and coastal) dynamics. We research the impact of human activity and nature on water systems, coastal structure, morphology, sediment transport and navigation. We primarily work with the Flemish Government, but also support private institutions and international organizations.
 
We are seeking for a numerical wave modeller.
 
Job description:
·         Numerical modelling of waves in coastal and estuary area
·         Calibrating and validating models by measured data
·         Management of validated models
·         Preparation of wave data for the ship simulator
·         Calculations of different design scenarios
·         Setup of new models
·         Research and development of new applications
 
Your qualification and experience:
·         Master degree of Science (natural sciences or mathematics) or Applied science (Engineering)
·         Minimum 3 years’ work experience on numerical wave models in coastal and estuary area
·         Knowledge of the Belgian coastal zone and / or Scheldt estuary is a plus
·         Knowledge of modelling software used in Flanders Hydraulics Research is a plus: SWAN, SWASH, Mike21BW, Mild Wave, Telemac-Tomawak
 
Your technical skills:
·         Knowledge of numerical modelling of waves in shallow water
·         Knowledge of the physical process on waves
·         Knowledge of statistics for wave analysis
·         Ability to write reports in Dutch or English
