IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

PhD Position on Dike Breach Modelling at EDF R&D (Paris, France) and University of Liege (Belgium)
Topic: Physical and numerical modelling of dike breach induced flow as a result of overtopping
Duration: 3 years (2014-2017)

The aim of this PhD project is to improve the physical understanding of the process of gradual breaching of river dikes as a result of overtopping. Based on physical modeling, the thesis will lead to the development of models for predicting the breach geometry and breach outflow with a higher accuracy and reliability compared to tools available today. The project will combine experimental tests with innovative developments in existing numerical models Telemac (www.opentelemac.org) and Wolf2D (www.hach.ulg.ac.be/cms/wolf).
Full details are available through this link [in French].
