The School of Geosciences at the University of Aberdeen invites applications for a full time faculty positions in hydrology/water science. This post follows the University’s commitment to water resource research and the strategic need to enhance capability in this critical area. The successful candidates will join an existing interdisciplinary science and modelling team to support the strategic development of water resource research in Aberdeen. Outstanding instrumented research catchment exist nearby and faculty expansion builds on a long history of internationally recognised research excellence in catchment science; particularly tracer hydrology, ecohydrology and hydrological modelling. We are seeking to enhance and complement these existing strengths and we welcome applications from other related areas of water science such as groundwater, surface energy balance, precipitation modeling to tackle pressing local issues of environmental impacts of hydropower generation, climate change adaptation and water resources, water sustainability science in the UK context and the international dimensions of water security.
The appointees will be expected to contribute to the growth of this dynamic area in interdisciplinary water resource research. This involves strengthening external research links with other Higher Education Institutes in the UK and abroad, government research laboratories and industry. We have particularly close links with sister institutions such as the James Hutton Institute and Marine Scotland Science. The successful applicants will also have the opportunity to develop links between cognate groups in other parts of the University and contribute to the development of cross-cutting research themes in Environment & Food Security and Energy.
The successful applicants must have a PhD, a strong publication record, an established national or international reputation for research (or provide clear evidence of the potential to achieve this), a proven track record of teaching and research supervision and excellent potential for raising external research funds. Excellent interpersonal skills are required, and evidence of successful research collaboration with national and international stakeholders and researchers is desirable. For appointment at Senior Lecturer Level, experience at successfully procuring funding for, and executing, significant research projects will be expected.
