The world-leading Pennine Water Group hydraulic laboratories at the University of Sheffield (www.shef.ac.uk/pwg) are seeking a person with numerical modelling expertise to support a recently funded EPSRC project “Experimental and numerical investigation of pluvial flood flows and pollutant transport at and between system interface points”. The project will utilise a new experimental scale model facility to produce novel datasets describing surface/subsurface flow interactions at manhole structures, flow profiles in shallow surface flood flows and mass transport processes within flood events.
You will be responsible for analysing datasets produced by the experimental programme of work, and utilising these datasets to develop and validate numerical modelling approaches to describe flow and mass transport processes at the interaction between sewer and surface flood flows and within shallow surface overland flow featuring street profiles and obstructions. You will also undertake secondments to project partners at the University of Exeter (UK) and the University of Bochum (Germany) in order to liaise and develop new modelling approaches with numerical modelling experts. You will also be encouraged to interact with collaborators and to take an active role in engaging with the industrial project partners and the wider Pennine Water Group.
