IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Seeking a Phd candidate, New Zealand
I am seeking a student interested in working on the topic of wave transformations across inter-tidal shore platforms for a Ph.D.  There is increasing interest in how wave energy is expended on shore platforms and wave transformation across shore platforms remains a relatively neglected area of research relative to beach surfzones.  This project also links to broader questions about the erosive role of waves on rock coasts.   The project has some funding to support field work and already has the necessary equipment (wave recorders, current meters).  Field work will occur within New Zealand, but sites outside New Zealand are possible if further funding becomes available.  The project is contingent on the applicant securing a University of Otago PhD Scholarship (international or domestic) and satisfying University of Otago Ph.D. entry requirements.  Students with high first class Honours or Master degrees and back grounds in geomorphology, engineering, marine sciences or related disciplines are encourage to contact me.  Strong computer skills are required and the ability to conduct post processing of wave time series in Matlab is needed, including the ability to write and develop the necessary Matlab scripts.  The ability to model wave climates using SWAN (or similar nearshore wave models) would be advantageous.  If you would like to discuss the project further please contact me via e-mail Wayne Stephenson

Regards
Wayne Stephenson
