Position Title:  WATER RESOURCES STAFF ENGINEER

Job Duration:    Full Time
Hours:           40 hours per week, Monday – Friday
Pay Range:       Based on Experience
 
WEST Consultants, Inc. specializes in advanced water resources investigations, working toward sustainable solutions that balance the needs of the users with those of the environment.  The firm’s scientists and engineers are nationally recognized in hydrology, hydraulics, sediment transport, fluvial geomorphology, and water quality for both wet and arid environments.
 
Working internationally from seven offices in Oregon, Washington, California, Arizona WEST measures, models and forecasts river and steam systems for public and private clients.  Our analyses serve water infrastructure design and operation for dams, reservoirs, levees, bridges, flood warning systems and water conveyance projects.  WEST also develops environmental best management practices for wetland protection and river restoration. 
 
Responsibilities may include:
Conduct water resources engineering evaluations and studies.  Assess and evaluate complex water resource systems including watersheds receiving rain and snow.  Analyze and perform hydraulic design of reservoirs, channels, and other hydraulic structures. Conduct riverine and estuarine hydraulic and sediment transport modeling using single and multi-dimensional numerical models. Use GIS tools to pre- and post-process data.  Prepare figures, maps and graphics. Organize, manipulate and evaluate data using spreadsheets or other engineering software. Prepare technical reports and memoranda.  Apply ingenuity and creativity to solve complex hydrologic and hydraulic engineering problems over a wide range of applications.

0-5 years related experience
 
Skill Requirements:
In addition to being enthusiastic about working in the field of water resources the successful candidate should have the following skills:
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to work independently & manage time as well as work as part of a team
  • Strong computer skills.  Knowledge of programming languages such as Visual Basic and Python is a plus
  • Excellent problem solving abilities
  • Knowledge of HEC models such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS.  Knowledge and experience with HEC and other models, as well as GIS software is a plus.
 
Educational Requirements:
MS or PhD in Civil or Environmental Engineering or water resources related field is required. P.E. Registration Preferred
