IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering University of Iceland, Iceland

The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, in the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences at the University of Iceland, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering. The Faculty seeks expertise in transport of airborne pollutants, water and wastewater systems or groundwater hydrology. The Faculty seeks an individual who can apply methods from chemistry, biology and/or physics; is adept at modeling; and, who will work to evaluate impacts on society, health and safety.

The Assistant Professor is expected to develop internationally recognized research, Master’s and doctoral programs. The Assistant Professor is expected to publish peer-reviewed scientific articles, attract external research grants and actively participate in international projects and collaborations. The Assistant Professor is expected to advise graduate students and develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses. The Assistant Professor is expected to perform academic service and management duties.

The successful applicant should have a doctorate in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering or a related field of Engineering and should demonstrate research experience in a relevant field(s), including the publication of peer-reviewed scientific articles and teaching. The successful applicant must also become a Chartered Engineer in Iceland within a year of starting the position. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Upon hire, consideration will be given to how the applicant fits the current conditions and needs of the Faculty.
