A PhD position in nearshore hydrodynamics and pattern formation (3 years) is open at the School of Environment, University of Auckland (Auckland, New Zealand). The project will focus on the analysis of an extensive set of laboratory experiments to study the formation and disappearance of patterns in surf and swash zone hydrodynamics (i.e. standing edge waves). The project will involve detailed data analysis and numerical modelling (Fortran or C) to investigate the properties of hydrodynamic pattern formation and compare theory with laboratory experiments.
The project requires a student with a research BSc (Hons) or a research Masters degree with demonstrated skills in timeseries analysis, fluid mechanics, numerical modelling and an understanding of coastal physical processes.
