The Department of Civil Engineering is seeking to appoint suitably qualified academic staff to Level D (Associate Professor)/ Level E (Professor) in fields related to Engineering for Extremes, including BIM and visualisation, modelling of risk, statistics of extremes, system modelling, reliability modelling and/or structural design, and evaluation and protection of infrastructure against extreme events. Applicants with specialisation in flood, bushfire and/or wind protection are particularly invited to apply.
The Department has recently launched three main research themes including 7 areas of research focus, in which Engineering for Extremes is the core. Engineering for extremes aims to make our infrastructure more resilient to the pressures of extreme events for the benefit of society. Through this focus we are developing models to predict the outcomes of extremes such that solutions can be developed to both warn society in advance, and/or protect society through the engineering of more appropriate infrastructure. More information about this research focus can be found at http://www.eng.monash.edu.au/civil/research. One expectation of this position is to provide leadership to this research area, including the development of a faculty/University wide centre.
