IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Assistant Professor of Environmental & Resource Science, Nevada State College, US
Nevada State College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Environmental and Resource Science with a specialization in Geosciences to begin August 2016.

Founded in 2002, Nevada State College is the first public four-year institution in the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). Located on a developing 500-acre campus in the foothills of Henderson, adjacent to Las Vegas, NSC emphasizes high-quality instruction, exemplary service, engaging learning experiences, and innovation.

The Assistant Professor of Environmental and Resource Science (Geosciences specialization) will join the multidisciplinary Physical and Life Sciences department to help shape and develop the Environmental and Resource Science degree program at this young and dynamic institution. As a teaching college working with a diverse and often underserved population, our faculty members emphasize translating our knowledge into exemplary classroom experiences through quality teaching, mentoring, personalized attention, and a commitment to active learning. Our faculty teach in technology-rich facilities (which include Sympodium and lecture capture technologies) and are encouraged to explore innovative ideas and techniques to enhance student learning. In Fall 2015, we opened the doors to our new, multidisciplinary Nursing, Science, and Education building, which houses state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, and an observatory with a 16" telescope.

The Environmental and Resource Science Bachelor of Science degree program serves both majors and general education science students. NSC students benefit from class sizes that rarely exceed 30 undergraduates, allowing faculty to create opportunities for students to apply classroom concepts to solve real-world problems both in silico and through field data collection. Project-based curriculum includes the use of a NSF-funded augmented reality sandbox to simulate landforms and watershed dynamics, as well as a focus on water use and sustainable food supply through experimentation with a constructed hydroponic farming system funded by NASA. Within the department of Physical and Life Sciences students may also receive direct training on analytical equipment such as a Mass Spectrometer, an ATR-FT Infrared Spectrometer, HPLC, and Scanning Fluorometer. Partnerships with outside agencies and institutions (Desert Research Institute, National Park Service, Water Conservation Authority, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, and Southern Nevada Water Authority) provide volunteer opportunities and student internships, as well as supplemental curriculum to ensure relevant and valuable classroom experiences. We are seeking a new faculty member who shares our excitement for advancing NSC's Environmental and Resource Science program and will encourage collaboration both within and outside the institution.

The Environmental and Resource Science BS degree at NSC includes a rigorous curriculum of biological sciences, geosciences, and practical application technologies, including GIS. This position involves teaching several of the geoscience courses with an emphasis on field-based experiences. Our goal is to provide graduates with the background to be immediately employable in environmental industries or to pursue graduate studies.
