IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Chair and Professor Position, Southern Methodist University, US
(SMU) invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair and Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering (Position No: 53638). It is expected that the appointment will be at the tenured Full Professor level. The Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering will also hold one of two available endowed professor positions associated with the Hunt Institute for Engineering and Humanity, The Bobby B. LYLE Endowed Professor of Leadership and Global Entrepreneurship, or The William T. and Gay F. SOLOMON Endowed Professor in Engineering and Global Development. The Chair will be the intellectual leader of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department with strong interest in educational programs at the BS, MS and PhD levels and in developing a world renowned interdisciplinary research program synergistic with the ongoing research in the Department and the Lyle School of Engineering. In addition, candidates eligible for the William T. and Gay F. SOLOMON Endowed Professorship in Engineering and Global Development will focus on finding engineering solutions to humanity’s need for shelter, infrastructure, sustenance, education and safety. Candidates eligible for the Bobby B. LYLE Endowed Professor of Leadership and Global Entrepreneurship should focus on the role of engineering entrepreneurship and leadership and their impact on global development, human freedom and social advancement. He/she will possess strong administrative skills and will be an outstanding communicator representing the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, the Hunt Institute for Engineering and Humanity and the Lyle School on- and off-campus. The anticipated starting date is on or before August 1, 2016. Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in civil or environmental engineering or a closely related field and must be qualified for a tenured appointment at the full Professor level.

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department resides within the Lyle School of Engineering and is located in the Embrey Engineering Building, a LEED Gold designed facility. It offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in civil and environmental engineering, an M.S. degree in environmental science, as well as an MA degree in sustainability and development.
