IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Graduate scientist / engineer - water - HR Wallingford, UK

We want to recruit a graduate scientist/engineer to our water group to support a wide variety of technical work covering hydrology and water resources and surface water drainage.

The successful candidate will have:

  • a good degree in a relevant discipline e.g. Civil/Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography (a higher degree in a relevant discipline would be advantageous);
  • technical knowledge and experience in hydrology, water resources and drainage;
  • good attention to detail, record keeping, presentation and report writing skills;
  • good numeracy, computer literacy and problem solving skills;
  • experience in programming and data analysis (some of the platforms we use are, for example, Python, .NET, R-script, Ruby script);
  • experience of detailed statistical analysis using R-script or Matlab would be of particular interest;
  • experience using GIS (e.g. ArcView, QGIS);
  • experience in developing or applying numerical models; and
  • ability to work within a team to deliver a common goal.

The successful candidate will work closely with staff in the Water group and will have the opportunity for training to further develop their skillset.
