IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Professor in Geoinformatics, Aalto University School of Engineering, Finland
Aalto University is a community of bold thinkers where science and art meet technology and business. Aalto University has six schools with nearly 20 000 students and 4 700 employees, 390 of which are professors. Our campuses are located in Espoo and Helsinki, Finland.

The position is located in the Department of Real Estate, Planning and Geoinformatics, see http://maa.aalto.fi/en/. Based on the department’s strategy, the focus of the research is on sustainable built environment, engineering in cold regions, computational modelling, and systems design and production. The research groups at the department are Geoinformatics, Land Use Planning and Urban Studies (YTK), and Real Estate Economics. Currently, the department has 12 professors.

The departmental organization in the School of Engineering will change starting 1.1.2016, when the Department of Real Estate, Planning and Geoinformatics will become part of the new Department of Built Environment. Research areas at the new department include geoinformatics, real estate economics, spatial planning and transportation engineering, and water and environmental engineering.

The research focus of geoinformatics is in spatial and land use dynamics. The research field includes geoinformation technology, geodesy, photogrammetry and remote sensing, see http://maa.aalto.fi/en/research/gma/. Examples of high-quality research include two research programmes funded by The Academy of Finland, namely the Centre of Excellence in Laser Scanning Research (CoE-LaSR, 2014-2019), and the Strategic Research Consortium on Point Cloud Ecosystems (COMBAT, 2015-2020).

Requirements
The applicant should hold a doctorate in a discipline relevant for this position. We look for a broad-based expert in geoinformatics who is willing and able to foster active collaboration at the Department and develop joint activities both in research and in teaching, and is able to acquire external research funding from Finnish and international sources. Preference will be given to candidates with research fields complementing and supporting the focus areas and teaching of the Department and the Geoinformatics Group.

For foreign candidates, the language requirement is fluency in written and spoken English.

The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their research, teaching and academic leadership and activity in scientific community.

Throughout their careers, those in the academic tenure track system are expected to exercise and guide scientific research, to provide related higher academic education, to follow the advances of their field, to participate in service to the Aalto University community, and to take part in societal interaction and international collaboration in their field.

Salary
Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities, but applicants may also provide salary requirements.
