Professor in Transportation Engineering, Aalto University School of Engineering, Finland

PROFESSOR IN TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING

which will be filled primarily on Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level of the Aalto University’s Tenure track system.

Job description and requirements
The above mentioned position is located in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, seehttp://civil.aalto.fi/en/. Based on the department’s strategy, the focus of the research is on eco-efficient society and sustainable use of water and mineral resources. Currently, the department has 12 professors.

The research focus of transportation engineering is sustainable and intelligent transport. The research group has two professors. In addition, the group’s staff includes one staff scientist, one university teacher, technical staff members, doctoral candidates and research assistants. The research facilities include an instrumented vehicle, other traffic research equipment as well as traffic and transport modeling software.

The research area of the professorship covers widely transportation engineering, with emphasis on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). The professor’s duties include the development of transportation engineering as a research area, which would occur in internationally and nationally recognized high-quality research programs. The professor is expected to work in multidisciplinary research environment in cooperation with researchers in smart cities, computer science, automation, economics, etc., both within Aalto University and internationally. The professor participates in the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral teaching of his own area, and in the development of teaching in this area.

The present call for applications is cross-disciplinary and applicants in all fields of intelligent transport systems are invited to apply.

The applicant is expected to possess a suitable doctor’s degree and he or she should display evidence of high quality activities in research and teaching in the field of transportation engineering. For foreign candidates, the only language requirement is fluency in written and spoken English.

Throughout their careers, those under the academic tenure track system are expected to exercise and guide scientific research, to provide related higher academic education, to follow the advances of their field, to participate in service to the Aalto University community, and to take part in societal interaction and international collaboration in their field.

On the basis of their experience and competence, applicants will be placed on the Assistant or Associate Professor levels of the tenure track system; in exceptional cases, applicants might be considered on the Full Professor level.
