IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Professorship (Salary Scale W2) in "Hydraulic Engineering and Fluvial Morphology", Germany
at the Leichtweiß-Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources (LWI), starting 1st of April 2017.
The applicant will represent the fields of hydraulic engineering and fluvial morphology and will continue to develop the innovative and sustainable scientific profile of the Technische Universität Braunschweig. The main topics in experimental basic and applied research should emphasize the fields of hydraulic engineering and river dynamics including topics of sediment transport and environmental technology.
Research topics could e.g. include:
  • Hydraulic stress on constructions
  • Near-natural hydraulic engineering
  • Interactions between current, sediment transport and vegetation in fluvial systems
  • Sediment transport and morphodynamic alteration of fluvial systems including ecosystem impacts
  • Measurements of fluid-structure interactions and multiphase flows
The candidate is expected to teach the broad field of hydraulic engineering at undergraduate and graduate level within the teaching programmes Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Environmental Sciences as well as in the international distance learning course ProWater (M.Sc.).
Lectures in Bachelor study programmes should be given in German, in Master study programmes in German and/or English.
TU Braunschweig offers excellent laboratory facilities including the hydraulic engineering laboratory (e.g. hydraulic flumes at different scales) and a wide range of possibilities for cooperation within the LWI and with other research groups of the faculty working in i.e. numerical modelling, environmental sciences, ecology and civil engineering. Participation in the research focus "Stadt der Zukunft"/ "Future City" is desired. Participation at all levels of academic self-governance is mandatory. The applicant is expected to have an excellent academic research record of international recognition, including peer-reviewed publications and the proven ability to secure funding.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with § 25 Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (Nds. Hochschulgesetz).
As an equal opportunity employer, TU Braunschweig is aiming to significantly increase the number of women employed and explicitly encourages female scientists to apply. Preference will be given to disabled candidates with equal qualifications. Part-time employment can be arranged upon request. Applicants having reached age 50 at the envisioned appointment date and not yet having reached civil servant status (Beamtenstatus), will be hired as government employees.
Please submit your application in German or English with all required documents (i.e. letter of interest, detailed CV, certificates, publication list indicating the five most relevant papers, concept of scientific strategy and teaching portfolio including teaching evaluations and a list of funded projects) as a hardcopy and a pdf password protected archive file to the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Harald Kloft, TU Braunschweig, Pockelsstr. 4, 38106 Braunschweig, Germany, dekan-fk3@tu-bs.de by February 18th, 2016.
