19/06/2018 - Associate Professor (in Polish Adiunkt) in the Department Hydrology and Hydrodynamics, Warsaw, Poland
Deadline: 25 June

The main area of research is within transport processes and  turbulent open channel flow. The Postdoc will be involved in the work connected with different aspects of flow and pollution transport modelling in rivers. This will be a combination of field, experimental, computational and theoretical research.

05/06/2018 - PhD: Regime Shifts in Estuarine Morphology, Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands
Deltas are under pressure due to climate change and increasing human activities, resulting in gradual or rapid changes in their abiotic and biotic systems. Especially when these pressures exceed certain thresholds these changes may be abrupt or even irreversible (i.e. regime shifts). The transitions of deltas are complex as human impacts operate on a wide range of spatial and temporal scales, while internal buffers and processes in the systems also set specific reaction time scales. Identifying how relevant physical and biological processes interact at different spatial scales, and thereby shape the resilience of estuarine systems, is crucial for understanding and optimizing the adaptive capacity of estuaries.

Deadline for application:  17 June, 2018

05/06/2018 - Postdoctoral Research Grant, University of Porto, Portugal

A postdoctoral research grant is available within the Project “OPWEC - OPtimizing Wave Energy Converters", coordinated by Prof. Francisco Taveira Pinto. This project seeks to develop and technically assess two different technologies for wave energy conversion using numerical and physical modelling, as well as to design cost effective mooring systems for nearshore and offshore installations. The work will be developed at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, Portugal, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Francisco Taveira Pinto and Paulo Rosa Santos.

Deadline for application: June 5, 2018

License.

Deadline for application: Open until filled

04/06/2018 - Departmental Lecturer in Civil Engineering Fluid Mechanics, University of Oxford, UK

We are seeking a full-time Departmental Lecturer in Civil Engineering Fluid Mechanics to join the Civil Engineering research group at the Department of Engineering Science (Central Oxford). The post is fixed-term for 5 years from appointment and is associated with St Edmund Hall.

The Civil Engineering Environmental Fluid Mechanics group conducts research across a broad spectrum of topics ranging from flows through porous media, offshore and coastal engineering, and a very extensive programme in Offshore Renewable Energy principally comprising tidal stream and wind energy research. The post holder will contribute to the existing programmes of research in wind and tidal stream energy, as well as develop new research projects and lead independent research, sponsored by research councils and/or industry. You will lecture and teach undergraduate and graduate students and contribute to the teaching, research, and academic administration of the Department. You will be a member of St Edmund Hall, where you will enjoy benefits of membership of the Senior Common Room and contribute to the teaching of Engineering in the college.

Deadline for application: 29 June 2018

01/06/2018 - UNSW Scientia PhD Scholarship in project “An innovative fishway to restore migration for freshwater fish”, Australia
The Scientia Scholarship program is a prestigious program attracting PhD scholars of exceptional quality to work on selected cutting-edge research projects. The stipend is A$40K per year with a further A$10K per year available for career development and international collaborations. The tuition fees for international applicants are also covered.

Deadline for application: 20 July 2018

01/06/2018 - Surface Water Resources Analyst/Modeller (KTP Associate), University of Sheffield, UK

We are looking for a hydrologist/catchment modeller to work on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between the University of Sheffield and Severn Trent Water.

The successful candidate will lead a project in order to develop and implement a new state of the art surface water abstraction system at Severn Trent Water. The system will utilise real time data, new forecasting flow and quality models as well as data analytics to improve both the quantity and quality of water the company is able to take from the surface water environment for public use. It is expected that the new system will have significant benefits in terms of improving the security of water supply as well as reducing the energy use and costs of water treatment.

Deadline for application: 30th June 2018

30/05/2018 - 4-year Funded PhD in Coastal Erosion Modelling, National University of Ireland Galway (NUI Galway), Ireland

Project Title: Modelling coastal erosion on Ireland’s west coast

Project Description:

Storms can contribute significantly to morphological changes along coastlines which can in turn adversely impact on the environment and coastal infrastructure. Climate change has led to more frequent and severe storms which will only exacerbate the problem. Understanding the hydrodynamic processes driving such morphological changes is key to effective coastal zone management. The main aims of the project are to ascertain whether coastal erosion/deposition on the west coast of Ireland can be accurately modelled and to investigate the relative contributions of wave action and tidal currents on changing coastal morphology. The research will involve use of a number of coastal modelling softwares including SWAN, EFDC and XBEACH.

The research is funded by Science Foundation Ireland through the Centre for Marine and Renewable Energy and is a collaborative project between NUI Galway’s marine modelling group (Dr Stephen Nash) and coastal dynamics research group (Dr Eugene Farrell) and the COAST engineering research group at University of Plymouth led by Prof Gregorio Iglesias. The successful candidate will be based in NUI Galway but will be expected to spend some time in University of Plymouth as part of the project.

Deadline for application: 15th June, 2018

30/05/2018 - Lecturer/researcher in Hydraulic Engineering, IHE Delft, the Netherlands
We seek a full time position for a lecturer with the ability to teach in the field of hydraulic engineering, more specifically basic and applied hydraulics, sediment transport and river engineering, hydraulic structures and hydropower. The candidate should develop experimental, field and/or numerical research on hydrodynamics, sediment transport and hydraulic infrastructures, at the reach or basin scale. The candidate should be able to participate in the acquisition of funding for the development of independent basic and applied research. The candidate should have a strong theoretical background on small scale hydrodynamics mechanisms and processes and should be able to upscale these to develop and apply tools to inform the design of water infrastructures and river basin planning. Experience in teaching and/or research in hydraulic engineering using experimental, field or numerical methods, is an advantage. A commitment to apply science to address hydraulic engineering challenges in the developing world is essential.
