About
Born in Madrid, 1964, Áurea Perucho holds a PhD in Roads, Canals and Ports from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). She started her professional career working as an engineer for the private sector, and in 1992 she entered the State Corps of Engineers of Roads, Canals and Ports through a competitive examination. She has worked for most of her professional career at CEDEX, occupying different positions including that of head of the Basic and Experimental Geotechnics Area, which she held until 2018 when she took a position at the Technical Office of the General Secretariat of Transportation to serve as Secretary General of Transportation and Mobility. She worked for many years simultaneously as an associate university professor, both at the School of Civil Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Madrid and at the Complutense University (UCM), directing and participating in numerous research projects, and collaborating as coordinator and teacher in courses and master's degrees from different organizations and institutions, such as CEDEX, UNED (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, UPM, UCM, AECID (Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo), or AETOS (Asociación Española de Túneles y Obras Subterráneas). She was president of the Spanish Society of Rock Mechanics between 2014 and 2018 and previously a member of its Board of Directors, as well as of the Spanish Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. She has participated in national and international scientific committees and working groups of different organizations, such as AENOR (The Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification), CEN (European Committee for Standardization) or PIARC (International Road Association).
