Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jochen Aberle took over the professorship "Hydraulic engineering and water morphology" and head of the hydraulic engineering department at the Leichtweiß Institute for Hydraulic Engineering on 1 August 2017. He studied civil engineering with a specialization in hydraulic engineering in Karlsruhe and received his doctorate in 2000 from the University of Karlsruhe (TH) on the topic "Investigation of the roughness structure to determine the flow resistance in mountain streams under clear water runoff". After two years of post-doc work in New Zealand at the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA), he worked from 2003 to 2012 as a research assistant at the Leichtweiß-Institut für Wasserbau at the TU Braunschweig. In 2012 he received a call to the Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway, which he left back in 2017 for a full professorship at Technische Universität Braunschweig. He is Associate Editor of Journal of Hydraulic Research (Taylor & Francis), one of the flagship journals of IAHR.
