Abstract: This paper explores a new hydrologic simulation approach for the Portuguese Guadiana, providing a significant improvement from the present modelling experience available for this region. Two hydrologic models–Thornthwaite and Temez–will be applied to two Guadiana catchments and their results assessed in order to facilitate the choice for one model. The hydrological simulations will use a distributed scheme, materialized by a grid setup of0. 125ox0. 125o. The results obtained will be used in the development of a broad water resource management model that will help the region coping with the challenges that will face in the future.
