A Study of Population Density Effects and Demographic Profiling on Recorded Customer Contacts of Sewer Flooding

Abstract: The reported research focuses on establishing tangible links between a series of inter-related databases, covering four major cities in Scotland, namely, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow (2003–2006). The databases, containing post code sector information, customer contacts (relating to sewer flooding complaints) and Multiple Deprivation scoring/Census Data, were supplied in a non-common format and‘mined’so as to reveal patterns of information relating to how complaint density varies with population density and social deprivation scores. The research shows that there are indistinct patterns between the cities and that these patterns may be used to define critical density limits to which targeted asset management modelling approaches may be applied.
