Three-Dimentional Computations of Compound Channel Flow

Abstract: Flows in compound channel are investigated using the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) code FLUENT. Three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are solved by the standard k - ε turbulent model and the RSM (Reynolds Stress Model). The distributions of main velocity, bed shear stress, turbulent kinetic energy, Reynolds stresses and the turbulence-driven secondary currents in compound channel flows are studied. All computed results are compared with the computed results and experimental data in Ponnambalam and Pamela (2003). It is shown that the computed results by RSM are in good agreement with the experiments and are superior to the computed results by Ponnambalam and Pamela (2003).
