Abstract: This paper studies the adsorption isotherm of phosphate adsorbed by suspended sediments from Zhuyuan, Bailonggang and Xinghuo sewage outfalls of Changjiang estuary and Hangzhou bay. Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin adsorption isotherm equations were used to describe the experimental P-adsorption data. It was concluded that the adsorption data of sediments with high fine particle content fitted to the Langmuir model more than Freundlich and Temkin model. It was also found that the exponent equation seem to be useful for interpreting the adsorption processes on sediments with low fine particle content. According to precipitation theory, the exponent isotherm models of some sediment samples may caused by the precipitation reaction of CaHPO 4 from Ca 2+ and HPO 4 2- when the phosphate concentration in liquid phase is high.
