Abstract: In order to analyze the control effect of saltwater intrusion in three encirclement cases of Guyuansha outside the north branch of Changjiang Estuary, two-dimensional hydrodynamical and salinity model are established, the flow fields, salinity fields and the salinity of important water sources were simulated bettwen the different cases in the north and south branch. The results show that: (1) The tidal flow decreased at the north branch of Lianxing Port and Case-1 influx was minimum. (2) Case-1 was the smallest changes in flow field, the Case-2 and Case-3 showed that the velocity in the deep groove inside dike increased obviously. (3) The upper trace of the saltwater in the north branch was the largest in Case-3, but the salinity of the south branch water source is decreased, the salinity of Chenhang reservoir and Qingcaosha reservoir as well as Dongfengxisha is decreased by 32.16%, 27.90% and 13.38% respectively. The salinity flux in the north branch was closest to the current situation in Case-2, and its decrease was the largest in Case-3. So it is necessary to further study the effect of north branch plane improvement project combinating with the dispatch scheduling of incoming water in the upper reaches of the dry season to control saltwater intrusion in the Changjiang Estuary.
