Abstract: Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) remote sensing technology can provide high-precision images of the earth's surface in real time, and various parameters such as vegetation type, coverage, terrain and spatial structure can be obtained through interpretation. It has broad application prospects in the research of small and medium scale, and has become an important supplement for satellite remote sensing. Compared with terrestrial ecosystems, river ecosystem has the characteristics of fast change, poor accessibility and invisible interior structure, the understanding of river ecosystem is still not as deep as the one of terrestrial ecosystems. The introduction of UAV remote sensing technology to river ecosystem research will undoubtedly promote the further research of river ecosystems, and has great potential in the study of water bodies and riparian zones. This paper systematically reviews the general situation of UAV development, summarizes the technical characteristics of UAV, analyzes the cases of UAV in the research of river ecosystem, and further prospects the potential application areas and development in the future.
