Abstract: A significant experience and innovat ions are accumulated during past decade in the area o f ice management (IM). As for example Arct ic Coring Expedit ion - 2004 of Swedish Polar Research Secretariat for Int. Ocean Drilling Program, as well as IM Program 1999 - 2008 o f AKAC Inc. for operational support of Sakhalin-II offshore project. Usually few icebreakers participate in the full scale IM operations. Depending o f ice condit ions the frontal icebreaker combined the funct ions of IM vessel and o f ice reconnaissance (IR) vessel. This paper presents a descript ion o f new techno logies o f ice observation and mapping onboard of IR vessel. There are applicat ions of digital camera, Bridge Master radar and Ice Radar for the visual and radar ice observat ions, mapping and measurements as well as of onboard navigat ion system for the physical est imates of ice condit ions. A detail informat ion from IR vessel together with helicopter and satellite informat ion produce the optimum condit ions for the work of risk analysis and alarm system.
