Abstract: The establishment of a well-designed monitoring system is the only reliable guarantee for early detection of the consequences of human activities on ground water systems. The implementation of a systematic monitoring network is thus necessary. Network density analysis using a kriging approach suggests the minimum number of observation wells in the monitoring network to be about 48 wells in both the shallow and deep aquifers. This approach results are presented in part Ⅰ. The analysis of observation frequency indicates that two readings per month are needed in order to adequately detect a two meter decrease in ground water level over a period of two years. This approach will be presented in part Ⅱ.
