Abstract: We proposed a highly accurate numerical scheme for calculating advection transports of mass, heat and so on. This new scheme is based on the concept of solving a second order wave equation instead of a first order wave equation. The superior accuracy and stability of the scheme have already been proved by the previous comparisons with several other ones in many model calculations. In this study, the new scheme was applied to depth-averaged (2-dimensional) unsteady diffusion simulations in a natural bay. As a result of this research, it was found that this scheme also retains its high accuracy and simplicity even in applications to a natural bay which has complex flow fields that vary with time and space.
