Abstract: The effect of ambient current on the mixing characteristics of shallow water diffusers is analyzed by combining results of studies done in the past. One particular outfall structure, viz. the unidirectional (or “tee”) diffuser is analyzed and compared with other diffuser types. Previous investigations, by Adams (1982) and Seo et al. (2001), have shown markedly different effects of ambient current on the tee diffuser, characterized by the non-dimensional parameter
