Abstract: Employing the concept of Tsallis entropy this paper derives a one-dimensional velocity distribution equation, investigates its properties, and verifies it using laboratory data. It is also compared with the velocity distribution based on the Shannon entropy and the Prandtl-von Karman universal velocity distribution equation. The Tsallis entropybased velocity distribution seems promising.
