Abstract: A probabilistic analysis of a water distribution system is conducted under the condition of hydraulic transients (i.e., waterhammer). In the analysis, parameters such as wavespeed, pipe diameter, friction and others, in the system are subject to uncertainties due to natural or human behaviors. The paper investigates the effects of these uncertainties on the reliability of water supply system under waterhammer condition. In addition, effect of surge protection devices on system reliability under waterhammer condition is also evaluated. A one-dimensional (1-D) waterhammer model of pipe fluid system, in conjunction with Monte-Carlo simulation method, is used in this investigation.
