Abstract: A 76.5 GHz FMCW portable radar sensor was developed and test for its signal stability and rain detecting feasibility was made on site. An average of 820 samples corresponding to 42 second showed that the radar sensor may give rain rate within 10%error. From the data obtained at on-site measurements with concurrent conventional rain gauges, relationship could be established between 1-hour rainfall intensity and received signal power. From the result, the radar sensor proved to be feasible to detect rain and is expected to be used as a rain detector after some improvement.
