IAHR stimulates and promotes both research and its application by sharing new research paradigms, networking, creating and disseminating knowledge, informing best water-management practices, and nurturing young professionals.   

IAHR’s Institute Members represent a global community of laboratories and organisations involved in research and development, educational institutions, organisations, and companies in the areas of hydro-environment engineering, policy analysis, water resources management, industrial applications, and environment management.  

As part of our mandate to facilitate collaboration and cooperation between engineering and research institutions and shareholders in the water sector, IAHR produces a World’s Directory of Water Engineering and Research Institutes.  

We aim to strengthen links between the public and private water sector, help the transfer and dissemination of water engineering and research-based knowledge, increase the visibility of activities developed by water engineering and research institutes, and support networking and connectivity.

Preliminary results will be discussed at an Institutes' meeting to be held on 21 August at the 40th IAHR World Congress which will be held in Vienna, Austria, from 21 to 25 August 2023, with the overall theme “Rivers – Connecting Mountains and Coasts”. We would also like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to your organisation to participate in the meeting. For more than eighty years, the biennial IAHR World Congresses have brought together leading experts to help address the world’s pressing water environment engineering challenges.
