International Journal of River Basin Management (JRBM) | Vol. 21. Issue 3, 2023

The Journal of River Basin Management (JRBM) plays a specific role in promoting a cross-sectorial approach encompassing all aspects of river and floodplain management, with a truly global perspective. The Journal is a response by the scientific and professional community to the World Water Vision and calls for an integrated approach to water resources management.

 Overview

This third Issue of Volume 21 of JRBM is composed of sixteen articles that address river basin management from multiple points of view, showing the interdisciplinary character of this Journal. The proposed papers investigate the impact of anthropogenic pressures, such as mining and hydraulic infrastructures, on water quality and river dynamics across the globe, discussing how the different local environments might be affected and interact with humans. In addition to discussing challenges posed by climate change and anthropogenic pressure, innovative solutions are also proposed, looking at restoring watercourses and improving their water quality. Few papers focus on evaluating and addressing risks connected to hydrological events such as flood and riverbank erosion, pointing out the key drivers and potential solutions to reduce such risks. As for the past Volumes of JRBM, all the manuscripts collected here are worth reading, as they report clearly the actual state-of-art in the management of rivers at the basin and local scale, pointing out open questions to be addressed in the future by both researchers and water managers.
