In a recent meeting with Pakistan’s Caretaker Federal Minister for Water Resources, Ahmad Irfan Aslam, IAHR President Philippe Gourbesville discussed cooperation on pressing water matters of national and global significance, especially climate change and risk of water-related disasters.
Prof. Gourbesville explained how IAHR can support countries and related stakeholders regarding water engineering and innovation to tackle climate change adaptation and mitigation; the nexus on energy transition, food security and nature; building resilience for communities against water related disasters and hazards; as well as digital transformation of the water sector.
The Federal Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, Syed Muhammad Mehar Ali Shah and the Chairman of the Federal Flood Commission, Ahmad Kamal were also present in the meeting, where it was discussed how a global platform of national associations could significantly contribute to support Pakistan’s planning and strategies to combat water and climate related issues.
