Introduction

The webinar, organised as part of the activities of the IAHR Technical Committee on Marine Outfall Systems aimed to present an introduction to the design and modelling methods and the latest selected research results related to outfall systems and the mixing of effluents in water bodies.

Nearly 400 registrations were received and you can now watch the recordings of the different presentations.

Summary

The short course focused on the modelling and analysis of outfall discharges with an introduction to modeling methods as well as reviews of the latest selected research results related to outfall systems and the mixing of effluents in water bodies. It dealth with outfall systems and their effluent mixing from a hydraulic perspective. Topics included:

  • Ocean Outfalls, from laboratory modelling to interpretations in real world situations by Dr Susan Gaskin;

  • Physics and modeling of inclined dense jets in crossflows by Dr Chris Lai;

  • Jets and Plumes, Theory and Integral Models by Dr Tobias Bleninger;

  • An Introduction to numerical modelling of effluent discharges by Dr Majid Mohamadian;

  • Numerical simulation of inclined negatively buoyant jets in shallow waters by Dr Hossein Kheirkhah Gildeh; and

  • Advances in numerical simulation of outfall systems by Dr Xiaohui Yan.
