The IAHR Technical Committee on Hydraulic Structures and the local organising committee are pleased to announce that the 11th IAHR International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures (ISHS2026) and the 10th IAHR International Junior Researcher and Engineer Workshop on Hydraulic Structures (IJREWHS2026) will be held in Chengdu, China, from 29 June to 2 July 2026.
These events provide a unique platform for researchers, engineers, and professionals from around the world to exchange knowledge, share innovations, and discuss the latest advancements in hydraulic structures.
As the demands on our water infrastructure grow increasingly complex from climate resilience and sustainable design to operational safety and environmental integration, the importance of global collaborationhas never been greater. In the past two decades, the symposium and workshop have served as vital platforms for exchanging knowledge, innovative ideas, and cutting-edge research among researchers, practitioners, and experts dedicated to advancing the science and practice of hydraulic structures.
The ISHS2026 and IJREWHS2026 will be organised by the State Key Laboratory of Hydraulics and Mountain River Engineering at Sichuan University in Chengdu, a living laboratory of hydraulic marvels, where the 2,300-year-old Dujiangyan Irrigation System coexists with the world's highest dams along the Himalayas.
Colleagues, researchers, and professionals from around the world are invited to gather in Chengdu to share knowledge, present new developments, and exchange ideas that advance the field of hydraulic structures. Open to both experienced experts and early-career researchers, ISHS2026 and IJREWHS2026 offer a unique opportunity for intellectual exchange, professional growth, and meaningful connections. An inspiring, engaging, and impactful international event awaits.
Main Theme and Subthemes
Under the overarching theme “Hydraulic Structures: Engineering Wisely and Responsibly with Nature”, the symposium and workshop will explore how hydraulic engineering can leverage both traditional wisdom and modern innovation to create resilient, sustainable solutions. Against the backdrop of Chengdu—with its iconic Dujiangyan Irrigation System and state-of-the-art dams—the event will examine how advances in AI, safety, ecology, and climate adaptation are reshaping the field.
