At the 41st IAHR World Congress in Singapore, a notable highlight was the Special Session titled “Innovative Water Engineering for Sustainable Development in Latin America”. The session served as a valuable platform to present high-level research and practical solutions in water engineering from the Latin American region, with a focus on sustainability and technological advancement.
Proposed and moderated by Itaipu Binacional and the Brazilian Water Resources Association (ABRHidro), the session reflected the strength of regional collaboration and scientific excellence. Despite the significant challenge of organizing a Latin American-focused session in a global event held so far from the region, the initiative was highly successful.
The session drew an engaged audience and facilitated productive dialogue. Studies addressed relevant water-related challenges in the region and featured participants from Brazil, Paraguay, Peru, Mexico, Bolivia, and Colombia.
This effort not only amplified Latin American contributions in the global water community but also reinforced the importance of inclusive, international collaboration in advancing sustainable water management worldwide.
