K. N. Toosi University of Technology (KNTU) joins IAHR as a new Institute Member!

Khajeh Nasir Toosi University of Technology (KNTU), also known as K. N. Toosi University of Technology, is a public university in Tehran, Iran, named after medieval Persian scholar Khajeh Nasir al-Din Toosi. The university is considered one of the most prestigious, government-sponsored institutions of higher education in Iran. Acceptance to the university is highly competitive and entrance to all undergraduate and graduate programs requires scoring among the top 1% of students in the nationwide university entrance exam.

This affiliation highlights KNTU’s long-standing commitment to the global water community. For many years, KNTU faculty members, researchers, and students have been active contributors to IAHR as individual members, including Dr.Farhad Yazdandoost (since 1999), Dr. Mohammad Javad Ostad Mirza Tehrani, and Dr. Karim Alizad. Now, in the year when IAHR celebrates its 90th anniversary, we are thrilled to see KNTU expand its engagement from individual participation to a united institutional membership. This milestone has been made possible with the support of Dr. Hadi Aliakbarian, Director of the KNTU Office of International Affairs.

KNTU’s connection with IAHR is not new. The 1st IAHR International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures (ISHS2004) was held in Tehran, 26–28 April 2004, in collaboration of KNTU with IAHR Hydraulic Structures, the Iranian Hydraulic Association, and the Water Research Institute, a landmark event for the regional hydraulics community. Since 2017, Dr. Ardalan Izadi has also been fostering student and early-career engagement through the IAHR Young Professionals Network (YPN) at KNTU. Looking ahead, KNTU plans to continue hosting Water Webinars and CHAI Talks with IAHR support, while initiating new national, regional, and international events to advance collaboration, learning, and impact.

KNTU’s commitment to water-related research is further demonstrated through its WaterChair at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and its leading research centers, including the Water Matters Laboratory (WML), SHENS Lab, and PINTEL Center. We are also pleased to recognize Dr. Mohammad Javad Ostad Mirza Tehrani as the official IAHR contact person at KNTU, ensuring strong coordination and active global engagement.

Welcome to IAHR, KNTU!
