IAHR awards the IAHR Label for Water Training and Education to Hohai University for the 'Coastal Dynamics' of Harbour, Waterway and Coastal Engineering programme

The IAHR Label for Water Training and Education is awarded jointly by IAHR and UNESCO under the Intergovernmental Hydrological Program (IHP) to institutions promoting and implementing excellence in training and education programs for competent and skillful professionals in the water sector. This distinction highlights the commitment of IAHR and UNESCO-IHP to educational excellence, fostering innovative and sustainable solutions to address global water challenges.

IAHR is pleased to annouce that it awards the eleventh IAHR Label for Water Training and Education to Hohai University of Public Service, Hungary for the following:

  • ‘Coastal Dynamics’ of Harbour, Waterway and Coastal Engineering programme

About the ‘Coastal Dynamics’ of Harbour, Waterway and Coastal Engineering programme

‘Coastal Dynamics’ is a core course of the Harbour, Waterway and Coastal Engineering programme taught at Year 3 in Hohai Unversity, providing fundamental and applied knowledge of coastal processes, including wave mechanics, sediment transport, erosion, and coastal protection methods.

The Harbour, Waterway and Coastal Engineering programme at Hohai University is a four-year undergraduate engineering program focused on the study of coastal and marine environments, with an emphasis on the interaction between water, land, and human infrastructure. Led by award-winning researchers and industry experts, this programme combines hands-on, multidisciplinary projects with a strong foundation in core coastal engineering principles. Covering many courses such as ‘Coastal Dynamics’ and ‘Port Design’, this programme aims to provide undergraduate students with basic knowledge and practical skills to prepare for a dynamic career shaping the built and natural environments in an ever-evolving world.

The objective of the programme is to cultivate highly skilled engineering professionals with a broad theoretical foundation and specialized expertise in port, waterway, and coastal engineering. The program integrates cutting-edge technology, sustainable development principles, and modern engineering management to meet national and global demands in infrastructure and environmental protection. This programme is deeply integrated with the professional water sector, ensuring graduates are equipped to address critical challenges in water resources, marine engineering, and sustainable infrastructure development. For example, the programme is aligned with Water Sector Needs in Ports & Navigation, Coastal & Flood Protection, Hydropower & Water Conservancy etc.
