
The China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (IWHR), China’s premier water research institute and also a staunchy IAHR institute member that hosts IAHR's global secretariat in Beijing, has officially opened applications for international students for the 2026 academic year. Offering a full spectrum of master’s and doctoral programs across eight cutting-edge water-related disciplines – from hydrology and hydro-environment to hydraulic engineering and water disaster management – IWHR provides a world-class research environment, modern campus facilities in Beijing, and scholarships of up to CNY 113,600 per year covering tuition, accommodation, living expenses, insurance, and even international air tickets for outstanding candidates. Applications are welcome from non-Chinese citizens with English proficiency, a relevant academic background, and a passion for advancing water science and technology globally.
Application is open only to non-Chinese citizens who are in good health.
The applicant for a master's program must be under the age of 35 and has a bachelor's degree.
The applicant for a doctoral program must be under the age of 40 and has a master's degree.
The applicants must satisfy one of the following requirements:
Graduates from universities of English-speaking countries.
Graduates from universities where English is the official language.
IELTS: overall grade of 6.0 or above.
TOEFL: overall score of 80 or above.
Make a package of all application documents, then submit the package along with applicant's information list to IWHR official email address: graduateoffice@iwhr.com.

Contact the supervisor and acquire the pre-acceptance letter.
Prepare your supporting documents and submit them by email.
Qualification Check and Formal Interview.
Provisional admission list after IWHR reviews with a public notice.
Applicants for academic degree programs shall submit their application materials before 30th April 2026.
Between 10th June and 15th July 2026.
