IAHR awards the IAHR Label for Water Training and Education to IHE Delft Institute for Water Education 

The IAHR Label for Water Training and Education is awarded jointly by IAHR and UNESCO under the Intergovernmental Hydrological Program (IHP) to institutions promoting and implementing excellence in training and education programs for competent and skillful professionals in the water sector. This distinction highlights the commitment of IAHR and UNESCO-IHP to educational excellence, fostering innovative and sustainable solutions to address global water challenges.

IAHR is pleased to announce that it awards the IAHR Label for Water Training and Education to IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, The Netherlands for the following:

• Regular MSc in Water and Sustainable Development Engineering (68EC)

• Research MSc in Water and Sustainable Development Engineering (120EC)

 About the programmes

The one-year (68 EC) MSc programme, launched in 2022, is designed for water professionals with a BSc degree and preferably work experience, providing a science-based degree grounded in professional practice. Its shorter duration reduces time away from work, maintains sector linkages, and lowers living costs while in the Netherlands, making it more accessible for potential students. The two-year (120 EC) Research Master, launched in 2023, focuses on students aiming for a research career, particularly those considering a PhD, with a strong emphasis on research skills.

The new programmes enable interdisciplinarity, flexibility and student choice. They emphasize skills such as critical thinking, sharing of experiences, exposure to different viewpoints, development of practical skills, networking, working in multi-disciplinary groups and learning together, alongside classroom-based knowledge acquisition.

This approach recognizes the value of the experiences and knowledge the diverse set of students bring and is further supported by the Institute’s high teacher-student ratio. Students appreciate IHE Delft’s way of teaching, its student-centred approach and the new curriculum.
