Deadline extended to 18 January : Call for applications – IAHR Technical Committee on Transient Flows Leadership Team positions (2025–2029)

The IAHR Technical Committee on Transient Flows (TFWG) is pleased to announce an open call for candidates for one position of Vice-Chair and three positions in its Leadership Team (LT). This call is issued in accordance with the IAHR by-laws.

 Scope and focus of the TFWG  

The TFtc is dedicated to advancing knowledge and practice in the following areas: transient wave theory in hydro-systems; hydro-system diagnosis by means of transient waves; wave–structure interaction in hydro-systems; geysers in storm-water and combined sewer systems; computational modelling of transient flows (in closed or open conduits); transient–turbulent flows (in closed or open conduits); field work: case studies, practical applications, and projects.

 Role of the Vice-Chair and Leadership Team members

The Vice-Chair and the Leadership Team (LT) members will work closely with the Chair and IAHR to:

  • Contribute to the definition and implementation of the TFtc strategic agenda for 2025–2029

  • Develop, coordinate, and promote new initiatives (technical activities, events, publications, outreach) in the field of transient flows

  • Support and strengthen existing activities such as conferences, workshops, webinars, working group sessions, and collaborative projects

  • Foster collaboration within the TFtc, across IAHR technical committees, and with external partners (academia, industry, utilities, consulting firms, and public institutions)

In addition to these responsibilities, the Vice-Chair is expected to:

  • Assist the Chair in the overall coordination and external representation of the TFtc 

  • Take the lead on selected strategic initiatives 

  • Act on behalf of the Chair when needed

Candidates are invited to express their motivation to actively participate in ongoing initiatives and/or to propose and lead new projects during the 2025–2029 term.

 Application Requirements

A complete application must include the following components: 

  • Short CV A curriculum vitae of maximum 2 pages. 

  • Statement of potential contributions to the TFtc. A document describing your proposed engagement, structured as follows:

a) General motivation A brief statement outlining your interest in the position (Vice-Chair or LT member) and your motivation to contribute to the TFtc.

b) Proposed contribution(s) Please structure each proposed project or initiative as follows:
1.Project/initiative title: [Insert title]

2.Type of contribution: For example:
• Production of technical content (specialized papers, books, digital content)
• Outreach and communication activities
• Organization of seminars, workshops, or conferences
• Other relevant initiatives (please specify)

3.Short description: One or two paragraphs explaining the proposed activity and how it aligns with the strategic plans of the TFtc and IAHR.

4.Resources and timeline: Indicate the resources required (e.g. collaboration with colleagues, financial resources, facilities) and provide an indicative timeline (start date, key milestones, expected completion).


Please note that financial resources will in general not be covered by IAHR and should be sought from other sources. 

 Procedure

Please submit your complete application by 18 January  (extended deadline), via email to jenny.lu@iahr.org.  Following the application deadline, an election by all TFtc members will be held via an electronic ballot organized by IAHR to select the new co-chair and LT members of TFtc.
