LTU is closely connected to IAHR through research in hydro-environment engineering and hydraulics, and by taking a leading role in IAHR activities in Europe, including hosting and organizing IAHR events that strengthen LTU’s international collaboration network. In more detailed and to exemplify, the groups of Urban Water Engineering and Fluid Mechanics connect because urban water challenges are fundamentally hydraulic. Urban Water Engineering focuses on stormwater, drainage, and flooding, while Fluid Mechanics provides the flow physics, modelling, and experimental methods to analyze and improve these systems. The link also extends to hydropower and the environment: turbine design and optimization, hydraulic engineering of structures and waterways, and ecological flows by assessing habitat-relevant hydraulics and designing environmental flows that balance infrastructure needs and ecosystems.
