Gadjah Mada University is a state university located in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, Indonesia. Officially established on December 19, 1949, Gadjah Mada University is one of the oldest and largest universities in the country, and has been recognized as one of the best universities in Indonesia. In the 2026 QS World University Rankings, UGM is ranked 2nd in Indonesia and 224th in the world.
At the time of its founding, Gadjah Mada University only had six faculties. Currently, UGM has 18 faculties and two schools, namely the Vocational School and the Postgraduate School.
The faculties at UGM are further divided into departments, which oversee study programs. The study programs at UGM include undergraduate, master's, doctoral , and specialist programs.
Gadjah Mada University is also known as one of the three best universities in Indonesia, along with the University of Indonesia in Jakarta and the Bandung Institute of Technology in Bandung. UGM is located in Yogyakarta, specifically in the southern part of Sleman Regency, in an area known as Bulaksumur, which administratively stretches from Sinduadi, Mlati to Caturtunggal, Depok.
