 Overview

1772633742162512.pngWelcome to the 33rd Symposium on Hydraulic Machinery and Systems, a distinguished event dedicated to advancing the field of hydraulic machinery and systems. This symposium brings together industry leaders, engineers, researchers, and academics to explore cutting-edge innovations and challenges in hydraulic technology.

As hydraulic systems play a critical role in energy production, industrial processes, and environmental sustainability, our event aims to showcase the latest advancements in design, operation, and optimization of hydraulic machinery. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions, attend insightful presentations, and network with experts from across the globe.

Join us at Foz do Iguaçu – Brazil – as we push the boundaries of hydraulic engineering and contribute to the development of more efficient, reliable, and sustainable solutions for tomorrow’s challenges.

Foz do Iguaçu is a vibrant city in southern Brazil, known for its stunning natural beauty and cultural diversity. Situated at the triple border of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay, Foz do Iguaçu is home to one of the world’s most famous natural wonders: the Iguaçu Falls. This breathtaking waterfall system, with over 270 individual falls, draws visitors from around the globe to experience its sheer power and beauty.

Beyond the falls, the city boasts attractions like the Itaipu Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric plants in the world, and a rich blend of cultures, making it a dynamic destination for both nature enthusiasts and those seeking a unique cultural experience.

About the Symposium on Hydraulic Machinery and Systems

1772633762148844.pngThe Symposium on Hydraulic Machinery and Systems, widely known in the community as the IAHR Symposium, is held every two years under the organization of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), founded in 1935. IAHR is composed of various technical divisions that structure its operational committees. This event is organized by the IAHR Committee on Hydraulic Machinery and Systems. The first symposium took place around 1960, and this tradition has continued ever since. The meeting brings together academic and industry researchers, providing a valuable opportunity for the exchange of cutting-edge ideas and knowledge.

Hydropower and hydraulic machinery are vital in minimizing carbon emissions and supplying renewable energy for industrial and residential use. Beyond their contribution to green energy, hydropower strengthens the stability of power grids by enabling energy storage and providing flexibility, which supports greater integration of wind and solar power. This symposium aims to stimulate innovation-driven research, enhance the understanding of hydraulic machinery technologies, and foster collaboration among turbomachinery designers, end-users, the academic community, and society at large. The symposium’s scope encompasses hydro-mechanical equipment, including turbines, pump-turbines, pumps used as turbines, smart grids, digital twins, turbine intake systems, and various other related technologies.
