15:00 CEST (Italy) - Duration: approximately 60 minutes
Part of the series: “Online Meetings with Young Researchers and Their Professors from Italian Universities”
Session 4 - University of Venice Ca' Foscari, Italy
Freshwater systems regulate how solutes move and transform across landscapes, influencing nutrient availability, water quality, and ecosystem functioning. As runoff and groundwater mobilize materials from soils and weathering zones, streams act as reactive conduits where chemical and biological processes further shape solute composition. Understanding how hydrologic connectivity structures these fluxes is essential for linking water and carbon cycling at catchment scale.
Giulia Grandi
Researcher
Enrico Bertuzzo
Supervisor
Opening remarks (5 min) Prof. Enrico Bertuzzo
Main presentation (20 min) Dr. Giulia Grandi
Closing remarks (5 min) Prof. Enrico Bertuzzo
Q&A Session (15 min) Moderated by Eng. Hossein Azizi Nadian, IAHR Italy YPN
In this session, Prof. Bertuzzo will deliver the opening and closing remarks, while Dr. Giulia Grandi from the University of Venice Ca' Foscari will present her research on water transit time as a proxy for carbon transport and processing across different hydrologic catchments. Under Prof. Bertuzzo's supervision, her research integrates numerical modeling frameworks with field and sensor-based observations to unravel how environmental and hydrologic drivers influence carbon export from hillslopes to streams, advancing efforts to close the catchment-scala carbon cycle.
Prof. Enrico Bertuzzo, Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, Informatics and Statistics, University Ca' Foscari Venice, Italy.
Dr. Giulia Grandi, PhD graduate in Environmental Sciences, University Ca' Foscari of Venice.
Eng. Hossein Azizi Nadian: President of IAHR Italy YPN. His research focuses on the hydraulics of open-channel and water pipeline systems.
