The Journal of River Basin Management (JRBM) plays a specific role in promoting a cross-sectorial approach encompassing all aspects of river and floodplain management, with a truly global perspective. The Journal is a response by the scientific and professional community to the World Water Vision and calls for an integrated approach to water resources management.

The Issue 4, Volume 24 of the International Journal of River Basin Management was just published, providing a good start to Summer 2026 with studies spanning hydroinformatics, land use and climate change interactions, flood risk, pollution, and the social dimensions of river basin management.
Among the twelve research papers constituting this issue, you will find studies on the transport of natural and non-natural materials along rivers, including heavy metal contamination from artisanal mining and its health implications, alongside machine learning and deep learning approaches for predicting streamflow, peak flows, and water levels. Other contributions assess the combined effects of climate and land use/land cover change on catchment hydrology, the impacts of hydropower development and afforestation on land and flood dynamics, and the vulnerability of transportation infrastructure to flooding. A closing study on smallholder farmers' climate adaptation strategies highlights the need to connect technical research with the lived experience and participation of river basin communities.
This fourth Issue of 2026 showcases the wide range of topics considered by JRBM, as river basin management calls for a holistic approach, combining expertise from technical and social sciences.
